you can flash global rom via XiaoMiTool оr Chinese pc suite. No need to unlock

You have to test it for yourself. The best rom for your phone is the ROM that works best on your phone only. Everyone have different settings and usage and if the battery is good on 7.7.20 global dev for me, it doesn't mean that it will be the same for you....

You can try to flash it via Chinese Mi PC suite. And there is nothing to lose if you try to unlock it via "fastboo oem unlock-go". Wait for another opinion for this method, before try. Another try is with engineer cable or button combination to enter in EDL Mode to flash the phone
