Most likely it is a kernel related problem. The MIUI v5 base has been changed from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 and I have also noticed that previous kernel has been replaced by Sultan r40. You can try to flash the latest Sultan r44.5 kernel from here and check if Wi-Fi issue will occur again.

MIUI v5 for Desire S bases on CM10.1 and official HTC FM Radio app requires Sense framework - it will not work with CM10.1. But app like Spirit FM Unlocked will work, I'm sure.

Only advise I have for you is to fix permissions, and wipe cache + dalvik in Recovery. I have never had problem with Android keyboard because I have switched stock one to Swiftkey long time ago...

I have never had even small single problem with official MIUI v4 ROMs on Desire S, your issue must be custom kernel related or you really messed up something with your system... Suggestion: currently I'm using Patched kernel from this thread...

Sorry but I can't confirm. On my Desire S I'm able to turn on and use WiFi at Airplane Mode enabled. Do you use stock or custom kernel?
