I have the same problem, nothing seems to work, I even tried to reinstall the update. Whatsapp has all accesses it needs but I found out even some files went corrupted after the update

MIUI 12.1.1 has lots of bugs, just go with MIUI 12.5 ROM......... it is more stable

I've had the same problem, I solved it deleting whatsapp data, wich is similar to installing it again

Thanks, WA reinstalation solved the problem
