In Progress Emoticon Translation

Hi, I'm running 2.4.6 on my HTC Desire Z.

I sent an emoticon from the message app in an SMS and the recipient received only chinese characters.

It's the same with sgs2. In the SMS application I try to use the emoticons and all I see are Chinese characters. Also if I do them by hand as in there is no icon, just the colon, hyphen and bracket....

Definitely a bug to be fixed then, I say.

Could I get a screenshot? On my GB build, I see emoticons and emoji and thats it.

Just to add - I am on an SGS2 and I see chinese symbols on the keyboard and on the UI wherever emoji is used. Is this a bug? Or would it be to do with themes?
