External SD card problem

Hey,
So I´m using unofficial MIUI v5 on my Newman N1. Everything is working great except the external SD card. I can see files on the SD card, I can play music placed there. But the apps cant store anything on the SD card... I cant download anything or take a picture with camera... I cant even make a screenshot. The SD card shows properly in Settings.
I´ve tried fixing permissions in recovery, formating the card. I´ve also tried different cards. Nothing helped... any idea? Thanks

/EDIT: whenever I connect the phone to my PC and then disconnect properly, the phone does not see the SD card anymore

I have the same problem with unofficial V5 on my Ascend P1, since version 3.9.13
Reboot function is not working like before and after rebooting the phone storage gets swapped somehow. sdcard0 becomes sdcard1 or something like that.
So I just went back to version 3.9.6 and all is ok now.
I noticed that size of the ROM increased from 176MB in version 3.9.6 to whopping 289MB since version 3.9.13
Something's not right.

Ok I think I figured it out.
In my case the base ROM was changed from version 3.9.13

Regarding SD card, apps not being able to store anything on it:
Go to Settings, Factory, Main Storage. Change from "Internal sdcard" to "External sdcard". Reboot may be required.
Now your apps will be able to use External SD card.
