Google Assistant Doesn't Work On Latest Rom

I tried the method by downloading google beta apps but when i hold home button for some moment system freezes but no google assistant. What's the problem here.
My device is Redmi note 3 pro (SD)

Settings, Installed apps, Defaults, Assistant and choose google app there.

Since now I don't use Google now. Do I have to activate my Google feed to get access to Google assistant?

No, google assistant and google now (cards) are two different things. Assistant work even if you haven't activated google now.

Settings, Advanced settings, Buttons and select a button for long press google now.

After that, follow post #2 directions.

I don't have this option on my "default app" menu....why? (Google Assistant installed!)

yes i did! but it again changes into Smart assistant automatically,that's the problem
