How to connect my Mi8 to an external screen?

Hello.

I have a USB-C to HDMI conector. I use it to connect my laptop to my TV.

I've also tried to use it with my Mi8 phone but the TV doesn't detect anything.
What settings do I need to modify on the phone (with Xiaomi.eu)?
Do I need any special app?

Play Store seems to have several apps related with my question but all receive bad reviews: Displaylink, SecondScreen, Miracast...

The Mi 8 does not support hdmi thru the type c port. You need to use wireless display to connect to a smart TV.

I have also noticed its USB port is extremely slow compared, it's not 3.1, not even 3.0.

Sadly most of the phone are USB 2.0 speed. Only Samsung offers 3.0 speeds on most of their phones
