New Inconsistent font display and unable to change font

Font changing works fine on my old Mi 8 which is running on MIUI 12 Global. On my 12X, it has problem since MIUI 13 EU and now 14 EU.
Whatever font I change in Setting or Themes app, it always tick back MiSans after that. It's not a prob until running web based apps (or I think they are) like browsers, Lazada, Shopee... and the fonts are messed up with unsupported characters.
On Facebook or widget where there are italic and bold italic texts, they are over-leaning and have different angles which look weird.
I tried to disable "System-wide variable font" in Dev mode but it still doesn't work.

Maybe I should change to Miui global then. Do I have to wipe phone data?

If you want to switch to Global ROM "Format Data" is required.
