Mi Note 2 sudden blank screen

Just unlocked the above mobile this evening, then moments later (after simply switching to already open Gmail app) the screen went black.

Have tried to restart/reset, with various different button combinations listed online, but not managed to get the boot logo to display.

However, the phone *does* actually appear to be working, only you just can't see anything so can't even answer am incoming call?!

Can't help but feel (and hope) there is a simple explanation, and ideally fix.

Anyone help? Very frustrating...

Not sure how this has any place in our Bugs section, especially when Mi Note 2 is ancient by today's standards and has been EOL for a long time.
