Missing notifications

OK, I really like my Mix3 and I can live with Miui (most of the time) but one thing is still driving me mad.
I cannot get my E-Mail app (K-9 Mail) to reliably display notifications.

I have allowed Autostart, disabled energy optimisation and allowed all access rights under notifications for K-9 mail in the app settings.

When I start the app manually I get a notification for incoming mail. Then notifications work for a while but on the next morning at the latest I have to start the app again or no more notifications.

Whatsapp on the other hand works great without any adjustments.

What am I doing wrong here?

Notifications are broken since Android 8 (Oreo), because Google has introduced an additional "notification layer" on top of all apps.
It's no longer possible to use different "per account" notifications with recent version of K-9 mail. But you can enable global notification.
Go to Settings->All apps, search for K-9 Mail, click on it and configure "Notifications" and "Other permissions" to enable global notification.

I did enable all options for k9 (see attachments) it still did not work this morning. I got no notification for the mail's I received during the night.

So weit, so gut... ;)

In 2nd image click on on "Benachrichtigungen" and compare your settings with my screenshot.
"Wichtigkeit" should be at least "Hoch". With "Dringend" you'll get additionally popups.
("IncomingMessage.ogg" is the sound file for "Ankommende Nachricht" in your sound menu.)

I don't have that option in my settings. Strange

Really strange. I suppose it's because you are on Android 9 that is even more degenerated than my Android 8.1...

Give a try to Fairemail: it has account notifications and even folder notifications. I use it with gmail and I'm very satisfied: had folder notifications in gmail up to android 8 then they were removed. But it's important for my work. Fairemail developer is very kind: I asked for folder notifications and he implemented it in 10 days.
