Hi,
I was able to unlock my 5s with the xioami unlock app (or so I think).
The problem is that I'm following the great guide by ZenXXII about upgrading to a different ROM.
Smartly it states to try an official ROM first....thus I'm trying the xioamiflash app.
I have downloaded both the stable and developer ROM from the xioami site. I have uncompressed them.
However, when I use the tool to put the ROM on the phone, it states it's completed successfully but only takes 1 second to do this. The phone also doesn't reboot.
I can manually reboot the phone and it goes back to the same ROM the phone came with (or so it seems) as nothing has changed with the phone.

HELP!
Thanks in advance.

You need to flash TWRP recovery for mi 5s and then flash the rom.zip you downloaded and then the method wipe data cache dalvik and system but i recommend to you to select all options and backup all.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. I didn't see anything about needing to flash TWRP recovery for the official Xioami Rom on the guide in this forum. I guess that is my mistake.
Why doesn't the official instructions mention TWRP recovery?

Thanks so much

Firts step:
Smartphone 50% or fully charged recommended
Adb driver installed for flash twrp via pc
Firmware of Xiaomi Mi 5s .zip
Unlocked bootloader
Now,copy the firmware/rom xiaomi eu on the phone and power off the device.
Then press vol - and power and now appears the message 'Fastboot' and open adb_cmd.exe
Then text this: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Finished this you can reboot your phone and press vol + and power and now you are on TWRP.

If this step its difficult for you search how to install twrp on mi 5 on youtube because use same method

This is great guys.
Very much appreciated.

I'm new to xioami. I'm curious why the official instructions don't mention this.

Thanks

Thanks.
Why do I need TWRP for official ROM?

Because you need to flash it example you buy the phone with preinstalled rom global chinese official (stable rom not weekly/beta) . Now if you want to install the rom multilanguage you need to use the TWRP recovery like cyanogenmod rom.

I used this tutorial if you need but it's in italian language , translate it using google chrome browser: http://blog.grossoshop.net/capricorn-natrium-mi5s-rom-xiaomi-eu/

I'm actually talking about just flashing the device with the official Rom....not anything different.
I followed the official Xioami flashing guide to put on official roms in case I bugger up the device with a non official Rom...I'm using the xioami flash.
Sorry if I'm not making sense. I really appreciate your help

Yeah that's my point.
Before trying the unofficial one I wanted to do the official one first and its not working.
Perhaps I should have tried the xioami forums but they are pretty terrible.

Basically I'm trying to use the official Xioami flash tool to flash an official Rom but when I do, it said it's done in less than a second which isn't possible.

Did you tried to unlock the bootloader of your mi 5s? It's very easy!

You mean the official unlock?
The official unlock worked fine...or so it said it did

Uhm.. so i think you need to learn how to install twrp, i suggest to search on youtube the easiest method for you for flash twrp .

Twrp is for unofficial roms...I want to flash an official one before that.
Thanks for your help though. Much appreciated

Hi Lipper,

since you have unlocked the boolader and installed TWRP, and you still want to install Xiaomi official firmware (Dev or Stable whichever you prefer), then just download it from here:

http://en.miui.com/download-314.html

put the *.zip*-file on your Mi5s and install it via TWRP as Gabriel98 just explained. It works fine. I have installed both of them (official Dev and Stable) and tried each one of them 2 days long. After that I installed Xiaomi.eu Stable and now I'm running Xiaomi.eu Weekly 6.12.8. I can tell you one thing, after trying Xiaomi.eu firmware, I'm certainly not going back to Xiaomi official firmware :)

P.S.: If this TWRP does not work (for whatever reason)

then install the chinese TWRP (blue marked part in the attached screen shot):

Have you tried the official miflash tool? Just curious

I will try official with twrp
Thanks

I tried to install the official Xiaomi firmware with MiFlash method over my fake firmware from EternalTeam/AliExpress before I unlocked the bootloader (the guide I was following said it is possible to flash an official firmware with locked bootloader) and I bricked my phone! I'ts not like I'm a beginner in rooting, flashing twrp, installing custom firmware (I've done this before in a half a dozen of various phones) but still that method bricked my Mi5s...

I ended up just using twrp and flashing .eu rom...works great!
Hope I don't need the official flash program to work as I wasn't able to get it to...
Thanks!
