just giving out some information that has been vaguely discussed but not widely known. after 10 hours browsing reddit and xda and xiaomi.eu this was never discussed in detail
on china mainland xiaomi devices 2024+, anything launched with hyperos 1.0 or the xiaomi 14 xiaomi began to make it incredibly difficult to unlock the bootloader to said devices. you NEED to unlock the bootloader if you want to root or install a custom os to said device, rom swap is probably possible with qdloader 9008 but i wasn't able to get it to work. also tried to use xiaomikey but their bs telegram bot doesn't work.
i have a chinese mainland xiaomi 14 that i've been trying to get unlocked for ages. NO ncunlock can't do xiaomi 14 and up china mainland no matter what you hear. he wasn't able to even get my phone on global rom as the servers were down, and from what i hear it's a frequent occurence.
how i'm gonna have to unlock the bootloader (and the only way, this is never offered as a service) is by using the CHINESE xiaomi community (小米社区). you need a level5 chinese xiaomi account, no your global version doesnt work (200rmb on taobao). then you need to attain a chinese dude's debit card number, his chinese id number, his phone number, and his full name. i have family so it was easily attainable for me, but more likely than not you'll have to find someone to do it for you. strangely enough after it doesn't prompt you for identification after you do this. hyperos version doesnt matter btw, same process every time
then you need to wait. every once in a while, they have tests held at 10AM beijing time to 10:15am. no more than 15 minutes and no less than 10. will probably use claude or gemini to bypass this LMAO i don't know much about the questions they will ask, will probably be related to android developing as they only advise senior developers to take the test.
i've included translated copies of their rules and terms for bootloader unlocking in 2025. take everything i say with a grain of salt, i am only sharing my experience so far, not anybody else's
if bootloader unlocking isn't a problem for you, great! this is just a psa for people who want to install custom roms. if you plan on sticking with chinese hyperos, id recommend you debloat it using shizuku and canta.
