Question re proximity sensor

I have a Redmi Note 9 and some time ago after an update the proximity sensor stopped working,

The ROM has been updated a few times since and the phone now has been updated to MIUI Global 12.5.3.0 (RJOMIXM) but the proximity sensor still does not work all of the time.

Is this ever likely to be fixed.
