Redmi Note 11 - no option to wipe data - [SOLVED]

Hi,

I need to reset a Redmi Note 11 for my kid as the password has been forgotten. Followed the instructions (hold volume up & press power button to access menu) but when the menu comes up, there is no option for "wipe data & reset" or "wipe data". The phone is new & has not even been fully set up yet (no location activated so can't try a Google reset, no Xiaomi account attached yet), I've tried downloading the MIUI assistant app to see if that could help & contacting support but nothing so far.

Is there another way to wipe the data? (In the simplistic terms possible if so please.) Am I missing something really obvious or does the phone have a software issue?

It's still under warranty so I can always return, although if it can be helped, I'd rather not return a phone that hasn't been fully reset.

Thanks

Thank you for a response but as originally said there is no "wipe data option" on the recovery menu.

I don't want to believe that. Can you show a picture of your recovery?
(Picture of phones, I should've posted this originally really)

Hmm, I haven't seen that yet.
Try starting the device in Safe Mode and do a "factory reset" from the system.

Safe mode doesn't seem to work from the menu/using the usual android keys as there is no "SAFE MODE" indication in the corner (like my phone has), it's still just the password locked screen & I can't access any settings to try a factory reset.

Thank you for your help btw.

This is due to Family link being enabled.
Oh thank you, I'll try disabling that & see if that works!

Edit: It hasn't yet (as I can only disable on my side) but at least I know what the root cause is so I can google more.

You can also do it via fastboot.
Enter these commands:
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot erase userdata
You can start fastboot by holding the Volume down and Power buttons.

Hi everybody.
Sorry to bother you here again, even when the topic says "solved".
but a helpless Dad needs some of your help, please.

my kid did the same stupid thing. created new unlock drawpad. but now doesnt remember it.
same setup here, Redmi Note 11, with Family link installed, which I control from my device/account.
also no "Wipe Data" on the reboot menu.
i was able to start the FASTBOOT menu, but I do not know what to do with it.
installed MI PC Suite, but Device is not supported.
installed MI Assiatant, but I can't read a word of chinese.

@ktg1985,
do you have a solution or been able to reset your device?
if so, your solution would be very beneficial.
i spent ages (at least feels so) with google searches. but no success, until i read your thread here.

Please get me some help, as my PC knowledge is very limited. :)

many thanks in advance.

Kids eh!

The issue (thank you NOSSB!) is that family link disables access to the developer tools which includes the reset. You might be able to enable them from the family link app & then try the reset & wipe data again. Apparently this should work (hence solved) but unfortunately this didn't work for me & I'm now in contact with Xiaomi support to see if something else can be done or whether I need to return the phone. I'll keep you posted if they have another fix but they do take awhile to respond.

(One earlier option I tried was logging into the Google account on my phone & seeing if "Find my phone" was activated, as Google will let you wipe & reset date from there. You've probably already tried that but just in case.....)

Many thanks for the detailed and quick reply.
Then I dig into the family link and see if I can do something against it.

When you have done feedback from Xiaomi, would be great if you share it with us.
Brgds

Hi Guys,

Good day! I'm having the same problem with my kid's phone. I'm hoping if there has been solution to this? Really appreciate your responses. Thank you very much!

Still chatting with support & getting nowhere (they take awhile to respond & keep asking me to access settings which we know isn't possible). Sorry, I know that that's the worst reply.

Hey Guys,
I was with an IT Expert, he connected the device via a cable to the PC and tried to connect to it with some software.
said something about sending commands. Looked to me like Win 3.1 on startup...

but no success at all.
had a telcon with Media Markt Support, suggestions they had, were already done.

Family Link removed via PC Browser, but due to the fact, that the "find my device" was not set active, no remote wipe was possible.

finally I've gave it to Media Markt Customer support, they sent it to a Specialist who can do it.
there the factory reset will happen. expected costs ~50€ and 4 weeks of time.

So suggestion to all, who want to avoid such issues:

- enable USB debugging
- enable "find my device"
- regularly save your data, when its important to you
- DO NOT forget the PIN/unlock pattern.

Sorry, for not having better news. But when you are not an IT expert, I don't see a chance to unlock it.

Hey Guys,

I'm having the same problem with my kid's phone.
I'm interesting by the solution.

As I stated above, there only solution was to send the phone to a company specialized in such things.

I can also confirm that once family mode has been enabled, the command "fastboot erase userdata" returns "FAILED: Erase is not allowed in Lock State".
