I found a solution for Xiaomi Long Press Home Button not working/responsing.
The feature can be found under: Settings>Home Screen>System Navigation>Button shortcuts.
I had set the shortcut to Turn screen off on Long Press of Home Button. My side power button houses the fingerprint sensor (the best thing Xiaomi did). I do not wish to see it fail from overuse.
Recently it stopped working for whatever reason. I tried everything and wasted many HOURS. I found the solution very randomly.
SOLUTION:
*You must get access to the hidden interface named "Button Navigation". It has a single toggle for "Hold home for assist". Toggle it on. This worked for whatever reason.
*Get access to it using widget>settings shortcut>button navigation OR by searching for it in app "hidden settings".
End note: I tried disabling the navigation shortcut, restarting, trying again, messing with the accessibility button, installing and trying Google assistant (which didn't work at all), creating a macro on Macrodroid using the Home Long Press as Trigger. Nothing worked.
What randomly worked? I was trying something with Gestures & Inputs on Nova launcher. I very randomly set the Home button action to Settings Shortcut>Button Navigation. Just the most random thing. As mentioned above as solution, I randomly decided to flick the toggle to ON. Then I instinctively long pressed the home button because I was getting frustrated and wanted to set my phone aside. IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN! Now you know too.
