Hi everyone, I had great battery life when I was on MIUI 14 and upgraded to HyperOS a few weeks ago.

I used to go to bed with around 70% battery life left, but now I am down to around 20% by 4PM.

I am new to the idea of flashing a ROM to a phone, but I am diabetic and rely on a freestyle libre 2 plus glucose monitor to monitor my blood sugars, and it wouldn't be good if my phone died whilst I was out.

I am on a M1 Mac, is there anyone who could explain how I flash the correct ROM to my phone? I would like to go back to MIUI 14.

Thanks for your help.

You have to keep in mind it is not an easy task, it would probably be a LOT simpler to buy a battery or to plug the phone. You may brick your phone or put it in a state where you are not able to finish the process.

-------

Backup your data, you will lose them in the process.

You would need to unlock the bootloader of the phone :

I believe you can't flash directly an older official ROM, so you would need to flash an old custom ROM, and then find the official ROM that you want on https://miuirom.org/.and flash it using MiFlash while relocking your bootloader.

I have no idea how using a Mac will impact the process.

I see, I thought installing a ROM was fairly easy and thats why people did it with the EU version? Would I possibly get better battery life with the EU version from here with hyperOS?

I mentioned a mac as most apps I have seen to do the process are for windows.

Flashing the ROM itself is not hard, it is just a few command lines (for the EU ROM), or a few clicks (for the official ROM with MiFlash).

But the locked bootloader prevent you from installing unofficial ROMs and I am pretty sure you cannot install an older official ROM over a newer one. So to get the specific result that you are looking for it gets a little complicated.

You can install the EU MIUI 14 or HypersOS (it still requires to unlock the bootloader). I know there is a specific command line for Macs. I can't guarantee that it will improve your battery life.

Simple speaking: Yeah absolutely no problem even on Mac.
As mentioned you need to unlock your bootloader and be prepared to erase your phone to factory (no user data will survive this)

HyperOS is surly more demanding than Miui , if your are comfortably with loosing all data (no big deal if you do cloud backups) we can help you step by step

OK, thank you for your reply.

You mentioned helping step by step, I am thankful for that, first step- how do I unlock the bootloader?

I will make sure I have a backup then go for the EU ROM instead of the official MIUI ROM as I want to use it.

Once I have unlocked the bootloader what do I do to install the ROM (also how do I know the correct ROM? ).

Also my final question, how do I go about this on a mac?

Thanks again for your help.

OK, thank you for your reply and helping me.

If installing an older official ROM over a newer one. is an issue I will flash to the EU rom from here.

For the first step, how do I go about unlocking the bootloader?

Thanks again for your help.

Okay First step is unlocking , because you use hyperOS already you should try this method:

(0. Create a Backup)
1. Make sure your Mi Account has been active for more than 30 days. (Just using your phone while having a Xiaomi account is enough)
2. You need do get the "Xiaomi Community App"
3. In the App change your location to "Global" , you should see an option named "Unlock bootloader". Apply for the registration and wait until approval.

If it's sucessfull , come here again for the next steps. If not, there may be other ways, but let's try this first.

It's not hard after that , in the mean time find your device/code name with Google, then you can download the last Miui ROM from this forum. (For example my device is Xiaomi 13 but the name is Fuxi)

Right I am in the process of downloading the app to unlock the bootloader, bear with. How do I create a backup first?

My device is a EU Redmi note 11, I am unsure what the codename would be it is either selenes or spes or spesn?

OK, I only created my Xiaomi account yesterday as I have never used the xiaomi features, I mainly used google play for apps.
I guess I have to wait for the 30 days to unlock it.
