Weirdness with automatic time setting

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but every time I set my time to automatic, it defaults to Alaska time. I had to turn off automatic and switch back to Pacific. Is this normal?

I'm in the Bay Area, on T-Mo. I'm not having any problems on the automatic setting. I have a Nexus One with the latest version of MIUI.
