What Are The Miui Optimizations?

After activating the developer options in settings, I find at the end of the list the possibility to deactivate "MIUI optimizations".
What are these mysterious optimizations and is it advised to keep them switched on?

Can anybody share some experience on the power consumption of the device depending on the setting of "MIUI optimizations"? I'd be interested to learn, if there is some statistical data available
