what if i try to update system app via adb?

If updating system apps was safe, we wouldn't have restricted it.
Well actually .. It's safe if you know what are you doing.
Don't try updating anything related with Xiaomi account , backup , cloud etc. Never update the SDK or apps "without icon" to say it simply.
If you want to update your gallery , dialer , browser etc it's safe but be prepared to maybe lose some features of these apps , but in this case just uninstall the update.
Be safe not sorry, always have a backup and an idea to reverse your updates or how to fix broken settings.

Updates for apps are almost daily , you cannot expect them to update so frequently.
The only option is to open source the x.eu modification and let the community push updates, but this will likely never happen.
Yes, if they "open sourced" their modifications on closed source applications, they would probably have issues with Xiaomi really fast (let alone the security issues with the community publishing updates).
