Good evening! I am from Belarus and came across news that Xiaomi will restrict to bootloader unlocking completely for global devices on HyperOS2.0. Is this true? Even supposedly insiders confirmed this, or is this clickbait?
Sorry for English, using google translate.

It was speculated that Xiaomi are trying to prevent unlocking bootloaders for the foreseeable but, this is going to cause a huge dent in their company because alot of people want to install custom ROMs and be free in general.

They're not going to do it now, but they're for sure going to make it more difficult in my personal opinion.

Geez. If Xiaomi does that, I will switch back to OnePlus. I don't use a phone without full authority over it. Moreover, it's not like stock Xiaomi HyperOS provide sufficient customisation and stability, monthly update for global, smooth experience and good battery life. Xiaomi should always let their user unlock their bootloader because it is one of the main selling points apart from bang for buck pricing.

All good things come to an end they say...

Interesting thread. I'm a bit worried about it too. Would like to know xiaomi.eu developers opinion about this. Thanks!

I hope Xiaomi will not make such a mistake, otherwise the consequences may be sad for the company and fans. Many users and enthusiasts around the world use this brand, because you can unlock the bootloader and install available software and root the smartphone for your needs and desires. Xiaomi is a people's brand and is available to everyone, as stated earlier, but if there is a ban on boot unlocking, then people will prefer another brand, because the pricing policy no longer plays a role in the market and Xiaomi smartphones have become not cheap ... We hope for the best and the global versions of the phones will remain with the same policy - this is my personal opinion.

That would be the downfall of the company imo, there are so many ports and roms built specifically for xiaomi devices with lots of people flashing them, and sales will 100% go down, so this is js a stupid change

It's indeed sad news if it gets confirmed. They'll definitely lose sales. At the end of the day, we enthusiasts are surely a very small percentage of the total Xiaomi user base. Hopefully, if it's confirmed true, they'll release a public announcement soon.

What does our opinion matter? We can't change anything, regardless of what Xiaomi will end up doing.
Agreed. Fingers crossed. In the end, consumers can only show their support via purchase. I am sure if Xiaomi marketing team saw all the vents by enthusiast, they will consider allowing buyers to unlock their phone's bootloader because if they don't things are going to go haywire. We will definitely see OnePlus sales rising drastically. Mark my words, the people from China mainland will be the first one to show their anger. We can see it from Ku An directly.

Sorry, maybe I expressed myself badly. I wanted to say what is your opinion about the news, if you think it's true that it's going to happen or on the contrary, if you have any kind of information that says that it is not going to happen. I don't know if you have any kind of direct contact with the Xiaomi team.

I have asked Xiaomi community support if these rumors were true but they haven't replied yet

However, there will be a new update for the Xiaomi community app this month, If they remove the bl unlock option then they are surely shutting down the bl unlock program, if they didn't then it will continue to be available

But I think Xiaomi knows well they will lose a large segment of their fans if this news comes true and will have a negative impact on their market share

For now, the articles on this subject only talk about CN devices released with HyperOS and are without official source.
Unlocking is still possible currently for Global or Cn devices released with MIUI, but in small quantities and with a lot of luck.
Xiaomi does not provide any support for unlocking the bootloader.

It's entirely possible that Xiaomi got bored of making money and decided that it's a good idea to become internationally obsolete.
But your guess is as good as mine.

"For Mainland China devices with HyperOS, you need to reach Xiaomi Community Level 5 and take a very difficult time-limited exam and pass the manual grading before you can add your account."

just wow

Only for Chinese people residing in China.

Maybe... Anything is possible, we don't know what's in the heads of Xiaomi's executives.

If Xiaomi bans bootloader unlock, I am honestly willing to pay NCUnlock for unofficial unlocking. But how will that affect ROM releases here? Will they get worse/less frequent over time? Since there will be less people using them?
I also am not sure how well banking apps work on custom ROM here. If I am paying 85 USD for unlocking, I kinda wanna have banking apps on

Well, if that happens, it will be time for me to change over to VIVO, considering their last 100 Ultra being on top level, specially also within the zoom and macro shots fields!
