Short story: my Mi 10 Lite 5G died (battery fault, bootloops during charging, overheating while using WiFi) couple of weeks ago so i've bought a Redmi Note 13 Pro to save my old data and i've bought Xiaomi Mi 14 as my main driver. In that post i will share the problems i encountered and the possible solutions.
Tech specs:
Mi 10 Lite 5G - MIUI 13 version
Redmi Note 13 Pro - preinstalled MIUI 14 to HyperOS 1.0.14
Mi 14 - preinstalled HyperOS 1.0.2 had to downgrade it HyperOS 1.0.15
The pleasant surprise: transfering all my stuff via cable from Mi 10 Lite 5G with the bad battery to Redmi Note 13 Pro was Excellent!
The bad experience: Constant "Reconnect cable and try again" error while trying to transfer via cable my data from Redmi Note 13 Pro to Mi 14, in the end on the first try i was unable to setup my Mi 14 of the Redmi Note 13 Pro because of constant USB disconnect. Tried all on the Redmi Note 13 Pro side, USB Debugging enabled both option (now they are two for some reason), Installing Apps through USB enabled, permissions given, disable ADB authorization timeout (that's some new BS after i did some research and definitely adding to the problems). I've let the Mi 14 finish the setup and out of curiosity checked the preinstalled OS version...to my surprise it was HyperOS 1.0.2. Checked the Redmi Note 13 Pro it was HyperOS 1.0.14 with no updates waiting. Checked the Mi 14 again and there was an update pending so i've updated and rebooted device. To my surprise the Mi 14 actually downgrade to HyperOS 1.0.15 so i've made a Factory reset after that everything worked fine, the Mi 14 was able to setup and transfer all the data from Redmi Note 13 Pro, except of course the call history wasn't transferred fully but later i found solution to that too and no it wasn't the Google BackUp or Xiaomi Cloud BackUp (the call history and all other stuff was transferred without any problems from the dying Mi 10 Lite 5G to Redmi Note 13 Pro....yeah). After Mi 14 finished with the setup checked again the OS version it was still HyperOS 1.0.15 but this is known behavior after factory reset, if you expecting to see 1.0.2 rolled back not happening and in that case that was perfect and probably is expected behaviour.
Short list to check when setting up new device:
1. On the Old One Enable USB Debugging both options (USB debug(Security settings)), default USB configuration to File Transfer and disable ADB authorization option just in case
2. Check OS versions of both devices If the new one is like in my case with two version up, boot it set it up with the same region as the old one without transferring anything update it and Factory reset it
3. In case not all call history, phone contacts or messages(or any data) was transferred use MiMover installed on both devices to transfer what's missing
It's going to make a hotspot connection and will give you option what to transfer, it's essentially the same as the setting up new device via cable but after the fact, it will merge all info and it will keep existing call history entries on the new device
Conclusion and rant: If this is the experience the new users have setting up new Xiaomi device of an "old one", the brand is going downhill for sure, 0 User Experience, it's unacceptable to have to read forums and searching for solutions for something that is expected to have the most smoothes user experience in that case Setting Up new device via cable. Don't know who's fault is Google or Xiaomi HyperOS team but they have to fix that ASAP, also in MIUI the order of the setup was 1. Device setup 2. Transfer data 3. SIM card request 4. Finish setup, in HyperOS it was all over the place.... 1. Setup Device, in the middle 2. get the SIM out of the old put it into the new one... 3. Continue setup but 4. Do you want to transfer your data 4. Continue setup..... all over the place
