Xiaomi Redmi 3s Pro - No Access To Messaging

New phone one week old-- it was working- and now I cannot read--or access to send etc
When sms arrives-it does appear on opening page (briefly)and indicate a message has arrived -but when I attempt to read in messages--I get the following
Unfortunately,Messaging has...
Send bug report to Mo for analysis ete c et c etc
Then option to cancel or report.

That message was appearing earlier but it would dissappear after a few seconds and allow access.

Can anyone help with this?
When a message first arrives --I can see if I tap immediately -- but cannot get it back a later date -unless in stored phone contacts.
If I tap messaging -it does as I described in previous posts
Any ideas please?
