I've just installed Miui on my phone and need to get a sms based gps tracker working for a project. Therefore I'm trying to get "Where's my Droid" working.

Unfortunately the application will not respond to the catchphrase (location) I've setup for the GPS tracker. When I or others text my phone with the catchphrase there is zero response.

HTC EVO 3D X515m
Android: 4.0.3
MIUI: 3.2.22

So far I've quadruple checked the catchphrase, turned off the sms pop-ups, allowed all the permissions I could in the MIUI security apps, and turned on all the GPS and SMS settings for my phone. Oh, and Cerberus and re-installs didn't work either.

I don't know where to go from here and seem to come up short on finding people with similar problems. Any help would be appreciated and any functioning sms/gps tracker would work for my project.

I can confirm Avast! Anti Theft is functioning correctly on my device (Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 4.1/MIUI 3.2.22/Perseus Kernel), including the locate feature. You used to be able to download this separately but now I think you can only get it with Avast Anti Virus. It's free and comes with a good number of handy tools, especially for rooted users. I just learnt today that you can set it to run any custom action via SMS (advanced users only).

Get it from Google Play - documentation is here.

I tried out Avast. Unfortunately the only response I managed to get back from my phone avast had the source listed as "Wi-Fi" which is not what I need. I am expecting my phone to loose all radio communication for at least an hour then will likely wind up in a remote location so sms is going to be my best bet for communication.

Since I can't seem to figure out why sms and gps tracking apps aren't getting along it seems i'll have to jump ship to another rom until my project is finished.

Did you have GPS enabled when you sent the LOCATE command? Did you send the command via sms or the website ui? IIRC Avast will not automatically enable GPS unless you first send the LOST command.
