problems updating

Hi, i have a xiaomi 1s wcdma phone and cannot update it. I have downloaded the update zip file, and saved it to the internal storage, but when I go into the about phone menu and press the update button it just takes me back to my home screen and does nothing. Please help me, am I missing something?

Just startup de phone in recovery (volume up en power button).
Then apply the update.zip

Hey, thanks alot, that seemed to do it, I had to change the file name to update.zip first, but then it worked and now phone is much smoother. Thank you!
