Android Oreo takes 12 GB on my 32 GB phone

just purchased a 32 GB Mi A2 non expandable I was surprised to see that android Oreo 8.1takes 12 GB of storage this phone is scheduled to receive android updates for the next two years how will this be possible if android takes such huge space ??

That's because of the "A/B seamless update" feature of the Mi A2. You have two os on your device by default. So you can install updates without losing data because all you data is stored on two partitions. And that is also why the reboot after an update is very quick.

Can't Google disable this feature and make it optional why this forced consumption of storage 32 GB seems low now

And why Xiamo didn't include microSD slot in the phone
