[Q] MIUI Launcher missing the Mail (exchange) icon...

During the last build (1.5.27) I removed my exchange account and added it again. After I removed it I noticed that the Mail icon (not Gmail) disappeared. I had hoped it would come back once I added the account back but it didn't. I can access the Mail app via an AnyCut or Folder Organizer shortcut, but as petty as it sounds I don't like the icons. I can also access the Mail app from the notification window when I get an email.

I performed a flash over of 1.6.3 but the icon didn't come back. I didn't hold out much hope that it would come back since, I assume, the initialization scripts probably don't run the same as a wipe and flash.

I am wondering if there is any way to force MIUI to rescan for the Launcher icons, or add it back another way. I am asking this question before I perform a full backup, full wipe, re-flash, and restore from backup...I would assume that would do it.

Any advice or answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

The only way I've found (other than preforming a full clean install) is to wipe data & cache for the launcher.

Sometimes the launcher just seems to hick-up and make an app icon disappear, never to return, unless you wipe data & cache for it forcing it to repopulate your apps on your home screens.

Also, don't restore any data to the launcher app as that will just reintroduce the affected files back into the app and cause the same app to disappear all over again.

Option 1:
If you have a MIUI Backup done previous to the icon disappearance just restore it and I'll be ok.

Option 2:
In case of no Backup just go to settings --> "Programs" tab --> Manage Applications --> search for "Launcher" and press o it --> "Clear Data"
NOTE: this will reset your Launcher to stock, meaning any arrangement you've done to your Launcher will be lost (Folders, widgets, etc). You won't loose anything! you'll just need to re-arrange your launcher from cero.

Hope it helps!

Awesome. Thanks for the replies. It's not an "ideal" solution, but it is what it is, and it works! That's all I care about.

I really appreciate the quick help.

It's not ideal, but it's no deal breaker either.

Even with over 150+ apps on my phone it takes me no more than 3 to 4 minutes to set my home screens back to my preference (5 home screens with widgets, a few apps on main home screen and 5 separate folders of organized apps). Just remember to do all your app drag & drops while in editing mode to make it way faster (at least 3 times as fast I'd say), drop an empty folder in the dock and drag & drop your preferred icons into that folder (all in one folder or a certain kind of app in a folder like multimedia apps, games, etc.). So many people complain about dragging apps from 10 screens away and it boggles my mind to hear that they never thought of dropping a folder into the dock that stays persistent on every home screen, lol.

In any case, enjoy your restored app icon!

I agree, it's a much more elegant solution then a complete wipe.

Also, I am one of those ones that complained (to myself) about the process of reorganizing my Launcher after a complete wipe. Your idea is an awesome one!! Thanks!

And most important thing: Backup you Desktop layout after rearranging it, so it can be easily restored in case of full wipe or icon disappearance.
