I think you're confusing JLB with Stock. JLB are the stable MIUI builds so should be fine to update from without wipe.

That's because its a player and a player only. Its not a front end. So the app only does anything if another app requests something to play a video. Same as how you don't have launcher icon for wallpapers, but if an app wants wallpaper, it calls the correct one.

Incorrect, MIUI Android release improved version of official weekly. Xiaomi do both stable and development releases. But your better off reporting bugs here because they don't listen much to international users on the official forum, so you've got more chance of your complaint being heard here...
