The Chinese phone is not Google-friendly by default. There are some settings you have to turn on or some apps you have to install. Also, did you turn on syncing for your Google account?

I think it depends on the app. I've seen banking apps that complain when all I have is an unlocked bootloader (with stock ROM). In any case, the hardware has limited support for non-China mobile channels, so it's doubtful to me that there will be an official non-China ROM (not xiaomi.eu).
