Custom message tones not allowed

i am so disappointed that I can't assign message tones to my individual contacts. People have been complaining about this for years! Has anyone found an app that works to do this or a messaging app that you can take over sms with and set them through that?

You can assign a custom ringtone to each phone number of your contacts.

To get custom ringtones for SMS messages you have to use a better app as default. Textra SMS or Mood messenger are good choices.

If you want a free and secure chat messenger without trackers and with custom ringtones for each contact or group use Telegram from f-droid. https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.telegram.messenger/

Please read the manuals before complaining about missing tones. Android 8.x (Oreo) has notification issues that can be solved in system settings of the apps. Don't forget to enable "Autostart" and disable "Battery saver" in system settings.
