Flashing a zip?

Having used MIUI on my Note 2 (until it died), I wanted to experience a non-ported MIUI. So I recently got an M2. My question pertains to flashing a zip, specifically one from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972286 .

In the past I would use CWM and install the zip through that. I noticed that in the recovery mode of the M2 there is also an option to install an update.zip . Can I rename the zip from above and use this to install it, or is the update.zip reserved for only MIUI updates?

I apologize if this is a dumb question; I searched before I posted and just want to be safe before I kill another phone!

You have to rename the zip you want to apply.

Nah, it depends which way do you want to install the update. If you got the phone for the first time, it is recommended to flash it e.g. with MiFlash to latest official update, and then just easy put the UK MIUI (aka miuiandroid) somewhere in your mobile phone, and install that update choosing instalation pack in your updater app.
