Flashing wit TWSP

Hello all, when flashing with TWRSP can you just do an upgrade or do you have to wipe all your data

MI 10 pro 5G
current rom
MiUI by xiaomi.eu 11.0.16 stable

Thanks when I flash Twrp using the instructions i get in set it up but I can't get the phone to boot back in to TWRP holding the volume key up and power it's going into fastboot now

and I'm not even sure I'm using the right version

thanks for the link I tried this a few times step by step I just can't get TWRP to boot after the phone restarts holding the volume key with power up or down it goes to fastboot i'm not seeing the stock recovery anymore with volume up good news the phone still boots what am i missing I installed TWRP on other phones it's never been this hard and the boot loader is unlocked am I not holding the keys right to boot TWRP?

Thank you fo all your help I wasAble to get twerp installed I had to use a newer version I was also able to flash 12.0.1 everything’s working great one my question do these roms update every day I was able to do a install and just upgraded my existing version Kept all my settings. Awesome.
