Im using MIUI 12.5. release version 20.12.28 on my Redmi7 Note and just found out that the gallery app is sending data without my consent or knowledge for an unknown reason! As you can see in the screenshots, all cloudservices related to photobackups are turned off. Never the less the gallery uploaded 223,7MB in only a few hours this early morning, while i was still in bed. Looking at the monthly overview the gallery app uploaded already almost 6GB of data for no reason.
Can anyone explain to me what's going on? That looks very much like an spyware behaviour and it makes me fear that all my images and videos are now stored somewhere in china.

After Checking the Traffic with HTTP Canary it looks like there are only GET request but no POST request going on. So the Gallery App seems to constantly download an update from xiaomi servers. Interestingly this always happens when you take a new picure or make a screenshot. whenever there is something new in the gallery, the app connects to xiaomi and downloads something. This accumulates to an extreme waste of bandwith if those 6GB mentionend before were only faulty updates!

so what do we do?

Merely the title of your "bug report" suggests another victim of conspiracy theories... Think before throwing in accusations.
It's downloading libraries for certain features located in "Recommended" tab.
The problem is that even when the libraries are downloaded, they will fail SHA1 verification on the next library check iteration, and will force them to be redownloaded. Currently I don't know why those libs fail verification.

Well i'm sorry for the panik attack, but seeing such a high amount of traffic from an app that is supposed to do absolutely nothing online just shocked me.
In that case i guess the simple answer is.....AFWALL+ and blocking all traffic via the firewall. since it's an system app i can't see another way to disable the internet access otherwise.
