I did not enable anything. Opened up the camera, changed to front camera and tapped on fingerprint and snap!
A photo was clicked

Is that fingerprint selfie only available on MIUI 8? mine is running on MIUI 7

I am using the last eu version for kenzo,and I am able to click photos using fingerprint(both front and back cam).

there are two different FP-sensors out there for the Redmi Note 3.

One is FPC and the other Goodix.

Maybe that's the difference here, too.

Yes rattensuppe is right. RN3pro comes with different hardware. FP sensor can be goodix or FPC. In older builds only FPC sensors could achieve FP selfies. But in newer builds, MM builds I'm sure, all hardware variants have FP selfies enabled.

For the record you can also find differences in hardware for the screen (boe, tianma, sharp), light sensor (liteon or sensortek), the same goes for cameras...
