Please fix this bug. The phone is getting very hot when the 'mdnsd' process is active and battery gets depleted very fast. The process appeared a couple of updates ago and can not be force stopped or linked to an application. Please fix this for note 4g users...

Hi. Have you had any luck with this issue? I'm a Redmi Note 4G user too from Singapore and have been having the same issue since updating to MIUI 6.6.1.0(KHIMICF) stable OTA. This MDNSD is using 59% of the battery when prior to this update I could almost say the battery life is impeccable. Please let me know if you got lucky with a fix. Thanks.

Use es file explorer (give it root access). Find the process in system/bin select properties and remove all permissions (all the checkmarks). Mdnsd wont be returning...

Thanks for the response. Someone did suggest that in the Mi.SG forum but my phone is nin-rooted. Furthermore no one seems to be able to provide a reasonable explanation as to what this MDNSD is linked to and why it appears after the update. Since it has worked for you I may give it a try and see if it works. Thanks again buddy.

I agree that it is stupid - xiaomi is ignoring the problem, but don't waste your time root and remove the process...

You are right man! I just had an exchange with the moderator and super moderator. Instead of explaining what is this mdnsd tied to he was blabbering about free flight apps for flying drones and even suggested that it could be linked to games. The one and only game is Jewel Star and I had that since I got my phone in Aug 2014 and like I was only playing it about once or twice a month. All applications are the same without any addition or removal. And they called me argumentative and initiating a fight! Just imagine that! Finally after giving them a piece of my mind, the super moderator closed the thread claiming it has been solved and there are lots of questions left unanswered. Anyway, thanks buddy for the share. Appreciate that.

I have same problem to, and lot of users, it'a rom issue on 6.6.1.0 and we have to wait next update.
I've check battery stats every day and when i see mdnsd process, reboot the phone and than all seems fine next couple of days

Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately, this is not solution, I've tried this already, still the same problem.

Since mdnsd appears on updating to v6.6.1 what I did was to completely turn off the phone and charge it to full 100% and turn it back on, and mdnsd disappears. It happens again when I flash MIUI 7 Global Beta V5.8.23 and I did the same routine and it disappears again till now. Turning off GPS Location tracking does not work as I have tried prior to this. BTW, I'm on Redmi Redmi Note 4G non-rooted.

Guys, you can try the method below:
If you have Root (this really works for me):
1. Like what xaocot said, give root permission to ES Explorer.
2. Run ES Explorer, click Root Explorer\Mount R/W, select RW for all selection, click OK.
3. Goto System\bin, find mdnsd, long press it, select Properties, uncheck everything in Permissions.
4. Restart your phone. You'll see mdnsd will no longer consuming your battery..

For non-root user (this works for my friend)
1. Goto Settings\Installed apps(or manage apps), at All tab, scroll down to find UniPlay Service, disable this app.
2. Restart your phone. You'll see mdnsd will no longer consuming your battery..

Hope this can help.
