Hi,

I know that this would probably be best researched by Indiana Jones, given the age of the device, but it was working fine until yesterday, until I decided to give it a wipe in TWRP (data, cache and dalvik). It launches fine into the setup wizard, but then I keep getting "Google Play services keeps stopping" error, and can't get past "Checking for updates" screen. I tried to NOT connect to any network, but then I'm getting a message that it's tied to my Mi account (which is true), and I need to have internet in order to activate device.

By some weird lucky coincidence, it once managed to get past the updates step, and I was able to complete the wizard, only to get a google message: "Not signed in, To use this phone, you first have to sign in to an owner's Google account in use on this phone when it was last reset Because you haven't done so, you have to set up the phone again."

BTW, my rom is xiaomi.eu - miui 10 - 9.8.28 (if I remember corrctly). I thought about upgrading to the lastest stable for this device, but all mirrors are dead at this point (which is understandable).

I'm wondering if the issue here is some expired certificates for gapps? Or is it google's backend not answering to android 8.1 anymore? Is there anything I could do here? Maybe flash more recent gapps? The problem is, I have no good image to fall back to if this screws things even more.

I'd appreciate any tip or advice :) Thank you!
