MIUI version

I used MIUI on my previous HTC desire and was entirely happy with it...
But my phone died...and I got a HTC Desire S replacement...
As rooting was not available for long time...I stopped following this community.... until now...as my phone is rooted again but I'm a bit lost and have few questions:
-homepage says there are 2 MIUI versions (beta 1.9.9 and stable 2.3.5): why the stable is higher number than beta one? which one is the latest available?

The latest version is 1.9.9, do expect bugs to pop up though as it is beta.

yeah the 1.9.9 is the latest developerbeta release where 1.9.9 mean it was released Sept 9th.
The stable releases are numbered just by the android version so its mean the latest stable is based on 2.3.5 Gingerbread.
