Think I will change my user name to 'dumb'.

I bought a new Mi2s from Ibuygou. 2nd one. First one was stolen after two days. I decided to try the V6 official update, OK but read about Wiui and it was recommended. Also CM-R.

So I installed clockwork mod and then Wiui via clockwork mod. Looked great. I then saw I had no imei number - no wlan and wouldn't recognize my Simm.

I was being helped on official Miui page and was told to reinstall stock Miui via MiFlash and it would be OK. It wasnt. I have tried so many things so many recoveries. Even one time it went into complete Chinese stripped Android - how or why I have no idea. I can see on Linux Mint and Windows. I can get into Fastboot. I am lost. I want to give up on the phone as my knowledge isnt enough. I was 'dumb' not to have made a backup. But what is done is done. I am getting no response from official Miui forum after the initial help so come on here.

PLEASE - anyone give me a method to get this phone back into working order and IF this works what the best English ROM is.

Its a big ask - as I know I screwed up - maybe deserve what I get - but two phones!!! man my wife is killing me.

Staylong

Well it looks you somehow managed to wipe EFS partitions,if you havent made backup of them your phone wont work.

I kind of know that - I do understand what has gone wrong (how not sure as I have installed Rom's before) never-the less it happened. I have already held my hands up to say I was dumb not to make a back-up.

I was hoping some one has encountered this before and can help solve it. It would seem from net searches I am not the only one that has done this. Just cant find anyone using Mi2s that has done it.

I have serial and IMEI number on box so if I have to I will send it to Xiaomi. But trying this way first.

Sorry to hear that.. the only way is to send phone to rma.. i have 2 mi one with the same problem. The worst thing is that ibuygou sucks, so you probably wont have your device repaired. Like my 2 mi ones.

Hate to hear that :-( sorry for you too.

There must be a way. I have my imei number and serial on the box. If only Xiaomi could send me a file that would do it.

Mind you I would prob screw that up knowing me.

This is the reason, why I always make EFS backup. It takes only 2 minutes of my life. ;)

try to ask to m1cha... because with the right thing you can recover all the thing i suppose. Try on xda if you don't get a reply here

You are right ... big mistake. when I see the Rom I didn't see back up your EFS. Now I know.

I have been reading some of his posts and will give him a try... if he isn't tired of people like me messing up.

@Steve Ambrose I always like to help :) but if you really killed your efs partitions there is no (known) way to fix that.
We could manually set Wifi and Bluetooth addresses but the modem config is encrypted by qcom.

Hi M1cha, this is what I was afraid of. Trouble is I really don't know how it happened. Strange to me. I just updated to V.6 with brand new phone. Kind of liked it but after reading several posts decided to try WIUI. Used links to get the relevant CMR. Updated to load then installed WIUI via zip. The only thing I did was to Wipe Data and Cache. Then my troubles started.

OK stupid no back-up. But for future reference what could I have done to cause this? Is there anything I could have pressed or done inside Clockwork Mod to have this happen? The device has not bricked and although I did get stuck on logo once its always shown signs of life.

Finally if I had to do it, can it be sent back to Xiaomi for software install. As stated its new. I have the box with serial and IMEI on it. Better than just being an expensive MP3 Player.

I see many people (Usually Samsung users) also losing there EFS and being able to get it back... whats up with Xiaomi that this is an issue. Scuse my ignorance but it does seem a little strange especially when everyone knows people play with these phones and try different ROMS.

Cheers for the help. I was hoping you had a solution but its better I know 100% so I don't waste my time anymore - its driven me nuts :-(

Sometimes partitions can be messed up with no reason. Just error during flashing.

About Samsung... new models also have encrypted EFS, it's Qualcomm's protection of IMEI against thieves.

HI
I don't think you are dumb because of that problem.
I have the same problem and this suddenly happened. A friend of mine have my phone about 3 months ago, no problems at all, flashed with a Miui.es Spanish ROM, i have MI3 now, that's why i give mine for some time.
She told me she did nothing, she don't know what ROM means, i know she can't delete system files because she don't know nothing about being root or using Explorer, just call and chat on whatsapp. But last sunday she put the phone on charge and the other day she send me a mail explaining that she don't have service, no wifi either.
Now i have the phone, I flashed a new rom but nothing happens, still on V5.
I purchased this phone on ibuygou too, really don't know if they could do something because i purchased on Feb or March 2013. Send my phone to China from Chile will cost me about 100 USD (shipping from here anywhere is expensive :/ )
I think Xiaomi or Qualcomm must be do something about it because that happens suddenly, in this case not because i changed a rom or something and maybe I am not the only one. U_U
Now i will search about EFS backup in case something like this happen with my MI3W (purchased on ibuygou too)

You really think problem could be because you bought phones from ibuygou?

not at all, just bad luck, i could buy the phone here in Chile, some guys sell Xiaomi phones with warranty here so, maybe if something goes wrong it would be easier for me to have some help from them, but the prices here are very expensive and by the time i purchased Mi2 they do not exist.
i trust ibuygou, i have mi2 and mi3 phones from them, some earphones, back covers, screen protect, glass protect, my brother have mi3 too, so, it's not ibuygou. Everything is fast less my last purchase (miband) im waiting since september, i think is lost... like my imei

To be fair Ibuygou have always been brilliant for me when ordering a phone. Cant praise them enough. Quick efficient polite and at a decent price. With this issue they have opened a ticket for me when I am ready to take it further and the tech made a few suggestions before going down a send and repair route. So cant be fairer at this stage.

At the moment I am getting help through M1cha and Magdag who has been brilliant. It is believed this is an issue with my 'baseband' and so we are doing some remote work using team-viewer. As an old fart its fascinating. However as an old fart I created other issues, well not really me but..... Needed Win7 32 bit to work. So had to install on a laptop I had, but for some reason it didn't load half the drivers and then compounded the issue by screwing up my partitions. So he had to leave it and once its all done I will pm him and he will get back on it. So stay tuned. Perhaps the fix is in.

To be honest it is NOT fixed. I had a great guy Magdag from India using Team Viewer to work on my phone. He was convinced it was a Base-band issue. Try as he might it could not be repaired... fortunately for me this phone is less than a month old and I have never ever even made a call on it. So next step is send it to Xiaomi. UNLESS someone else can help.

One of the last resorts he tried was to short circuit the phone. It forces the low level system to work... whatever that means. Anyway it installs some different drivers to work... have a look its all greek to me. Perhaps I didn't get the contacts right at the time - was trying not to rush but difficult when the poor guy was online. Here is a link http://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/ultimate-cure-to-the-qhsusb_dload-of-mi2-s.20567/

Maybe it will help and certainly a last resort. Good Luck.

Well born 1957. The guy that's been helping with my phone is 23 and some of the guys on here that are experts are prob younger. Different world. The only mobile phones we had when I was a lad was when someone stole the local telephone box and carted it off on the back of a lorry.

When I moaned to the wife about the phone not working she asked me if I was pressing the wrong button? Finished it off by saying "well love they don't call them smart phones for nothing!" I whent to the pub.

I will try this, it's strange don't have a official fix for this. My phone is old a year and a half, flashed a lot of times , never had a problem till now.
Now I have an android ipod touch without WiFi :(
