Porting to Samsung Mesmerize

I have a Samsung Mesmerize and would like to do a port of MIUI to the Mesmerize. However, I am relatively new to porting and would love any pointers and advice the community has to offer. I will post my progress here provided you guys can give me a solid foundation to work off of. Hopefully, after this is all done, we'll have a nice port for the Mesmerize and a nice guide for anyone else in my situation.
