i was going through my emails in the gmail app and suddenly the screen went dark. my phone seemed to be working fine as it would ring when someone would call it, and the notification lights/sounds would come on for messages (whatsapp, sms, etc...) but i couldn't actually see anything on the screen. i couldn't see anything when i tried to go into fastboot mode, etc.. either. i was able to access my phone perfectly via USB to PC and see all my files... so i assume it wasn't bricked. i'm hoping it's not some kind of hardware malfunction as i don't think aliexpress provides warranty...

i've been on the custom eu rom for a couple months with no problems until now... glass screen protector on it with a case and i've have never dropped the phone. didn't drop it in water or anything either.

anyway, i flashed my phone just now (in EDL mode) but it didn't fix the screen. i could hear the phone beeping so i checked what was on the screen via Mi PC Suite and saw that it flashed correctly and was in set-up. My touchscreen was working too as I could navigate the menus (select english, click next, etc...)... so, i'm guessing it's a manufacturer's defect. anybody else experienced or heard of this issue? if it can't be fixed, does anybody know what options i have if i bought the phone off aliexpress and am living in australia?

Hi there,
Did you ever get a solution to this?
I've got exactly the same problem and was wondering if it was worth trying to send it back to the vendor or maybe buy a replacement screen and try and fit that.

Cheers,
Phil

i scoured the web for a solution and couldn't find anything. post an update here if you do find one though.

i would send it back to the vendor if you have that option. i didn't, and i tried to replace the screen myself, which i've done for other phones in the past, and failed. this phone is very difficult to take apart (at least the lcd from the glass) so i wouldn't recommend it unless you're pretty skilled at doing this and have all the necessary tools.

I've done pretty well the same thing, I'd guess we were just unlucky.
I did contact the vendor, nothing back from them, not much of a surprise there!

I was considering replacing the digitiser and LCD as one to get around the problem of separating them, but I guess there's no guarantee that would make it work and would probably be throwing good money after bad.

Shame, I did like the phone

ah, sorry. that is what i bought. i had a google nexus 5 where you could replace the whole front - if that were available, i would recommend trying to fix it yourself. as far as i know, they don't have that yet. or, you could check around your city to see if anybody does these type of repairs.

that's the biggest downfall with buying xiaomi unfortunately - no warranty (depending on your country). one thing i did realise though is you can use the MiSuite (i think) app to play around with your phone using your computer to get anything you need off of it.
