Screen protector for hongmi

Hi,
I bought this Nillkin case for my new Redmi, it came with the screen protector:

Unfortunately, protector doesn't have a hole cut of for the proximity sensor. The screen turns off and often didn't turn back on after a call. Problem solved by removing a protector. Ordered another one with the hole for the sensor.
Did anyone else had any similar experience?
I also have 2 other MTK-based phones and both of them work fine with screens fully covered ba protector.
Out of curiosity I did a little test and put used hongmi protector on my wife's old ZTE 889, works without a problem (which already has one, so now with 2 protectors on!), works great, and ZTE is really cheap device with plastic screen
Could it be due to the gorilla glass on hongmi?
Which screen protector would you recommend for hongmi?
PLease don't tell meprotector is not needed because of GG screen, had a a nasty surprise with my old HTC and pocket sand

I don't use a screen protector at all, and after 6 months my Hongmi is just fine.
