Strange Issue On Fresh Install (settings Crashing)...[fixed]

Hi all,

This is really bugging me - I had an .eu ROM on the RN3P, all working fine. Needed to update so did wipe, installed 6.12.29, all went fine, booted up, all looks to work EXCEPT settings - it just keeps crashing. Of course the phone is unusable without settings. I've tried reinstalling, I've tried updating TWRP from the instructions on Xiaomi EU, I've tried reverting to stable 8.1.1.0, still having the same issue. I've resolved many issues before but this one is new and seemingly unsolvable.

** To since this issue I ended up installing the original xiaomi China developer ROM. It then booted. Then went through usual BL process and xiaomi EU ROM install including TWRP. All installed and working except other issues but that for another thread. Thank you! **

officially unlocked? flashed without any mod, kernel, supersu..?

Officially unlocked, no mods (I had skinned the earlier version of the EU rom (cannot remember which one I installed); no system wipe, reinstalled TWRP to make sure the instructions followed to the detail - I've installed maybe 15 EU ROMs on as many phones and always fine (once I crossed any BL unlocking issues) - this is first time - strangest thing is I installed the same ROM on a new RN3P before I wiped this one and it worked fine...I'm really stuck on this one.

Thanks in advance (I am downloading 7.1.5 as we speak so I'll try that next ans see how we go). I tried SuperSu (add more zips in TWRP) but that is how I've always done it...I checked also without flashing SU and same issue.

OK, tried on 7.1.5 - same issue, there is obviously something that has been done/not done that I cannot figure out. It all installs fine, flashes ok, setup all ok (skip sim card, skip wifi, skip google account); as soon as the home screen loads it reports error 'Unfortauntely, Settings has stopped.' with send bug option.

Wow - at a complete dead end :/
