Unlock - Before Or After Update?

Hi,

As of now my boot loader is not unlocked because I've flashed the Rom via the miflash-tool. I would like to upgrade to android 7 and I wonder if I can do the upgrade before I've unlocked to bootloader?

If I understand I only need to unlock if I want to do more updates? No?

If you can update via updater with locked bootloader then you should unlock it after the update to Android N.
