Update to android 11

What's the easiest way to upgrade the mi 9t to android 11? Currently on miui global 12.0.9
Can I just download and update via choose update package? Or do I have to unlock bootloader? Does it matter if the new version is global on eu?

Unlock bootloader, istall custom rom android 15 from xda
