Whatsapp Messages Cause The Screen To Activate

Hi,
Redmi 4 Pro and latest MIUI8 weekly here (installed from scratch).
I noticed that, as opposed to the Global ROM, every time someone sends me a message, the screen keeps turning on, hence wasting quite some battery. Would you be so kind to tell me how to just retain the LED notification instead?

If I go on Whatsapp, it tells: Pop-up message - only when the display is switched on (white light)

I'm referring to system settings->notifications and status bar as well.
From there, in the app list, I selected WhatsApp.

i don't know how the option is called in english as i'm running miui in german...

try something like this:

settings - display & security - "screen on when receiving notifications..." - switch it off.

Actually I am using it in german.
Yes, I just found out a few minutes ago that the culprit was exactly that option.
