I am using mi max prime latest EU rom beta and I can't get a verification SMS. Every time I try to send it, a message prompting that there's something wrong with my version of whatsapp and tells me to download the latest version from the app store.. I am bummed 
Just for your info.. I solved the problem.. one of the themes in the EU rom app store renamed the "whatsapp" to "WA". I was using that theme so I switched back to the default theme and tried resending the verification again and it worked.
