Hi guys, I just recently got a m2 and i realize that the maps gps always directs me to some place in china. I understand I have to root my phone and do something. Can someone walk me through this?
also, when it asks me for my network provider, there are only chinese providers while Im in Canada. One last problem im experiencing is that everytime I try to download an app from the play store, it says 'Downloading a large app.....' and it never showed this on any of my other phones, and i want to remove it. Can anyone can help me fix these problems please.

Hi David - Welcome aboard!

You won't need to root the phone and it already comes pre-installed with recovery so moving forward is pretty easy.

The easiest way to solve the gps situation would be to use recovery to flash the latest English miuiandroid Rom as this will fix your GPS issues as well as give you a better English language to work with.

You can find the latest ROM here: http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/3-1-25.19413/

And flashing instructions here: http://miuiandroid.com/community/threads/a-simple-update-guide-for-xiaomi-m2.18942/

Hope this helps!

Hi David, I'm from Canada as well, mymellowman's instructions are exactly what I did and everything is working fine.

i didnt really understand how to root the phone but i found a way to update.
I just downloaded the newest rom and put it in the root and named it update.zip
then i went to about phone -> update -> and there was a option to use a rom
so i did it everything works now and its rooted
it was actually so much easier than i thought it would be

With some apps even after getting GPS.conf fixed it can still be hard to get a GPS location to solve this app called GPSfix works to get a fix within 5-10 seconds mostly only have a problem with speedtest.net app finding location with data location off and only GPS active
