Hey fellow miui'ers,

I am a happy user of my m2 with miui, a UI that, comming from an android 2.3, really blows my mind. I am from europe but living for 4 more months now in Beijing, so I had the chance to get the M2 direct from xiaomi. I already learned, that MIUIAndroid != MIUI and therefore I have a question:

Sadly, my M2 crashes in two different ways:
  • it restarts unpredictably when just laying on the desk
  • tonight it just froze while I was sleeping with a dark screen and the yellow LED blinking. That really sucks because I use it as my alarm clock. Had to pull out the battery in the middle of the night.
I am using the _STANDARD_ ROM it came with, updated it with the included tools to JLB12 (took me a while to get the difference between v5, JLB10/12, and your 3.13.x).
So my question: Is that something an upgrade to MIUIAndroid can fix? Do you suffer the same problems before/after the new ROM? Or is this more a hardware-defect?
Best wishes from Beijing, home of Xiaomi :)

Well your problem seems to be more hardware related than software. If you are up to date with Mi-2 you can try other ROM variants that are avaliable in this forum, like AOSP, WIUI, MIUI and Lenoxx to see if solves your problem. But my second suggestion is to send your device to waranty and try to replace if it still in time.

sadly not in time. china seems to have a 1week cashback 2 week immediatly exchange policy with online purchased goods. I am now in the 3rd week. I was not enough alerted. So I will go in or after the upcoming chinese holidays to a xiaomi repair desk and hope their english is good enough to understand my problem. chinese support hotline advices me (luckily I have friendly chinese colleagues) to try some factory reset or reflash to latest MIUI.

If there are any good ideas left, please go on.

Like I said in my last post to try flashing your device with the latest MIUI either from our forum or official chinese MIUI but is always recomended to do wipe in all data etc to avoid upgrade issues. And as suggested in the post try other variant ROM's to see if the problem is the same and you will conclude if is software or hardware related.

thanks again for your help dextructor. I will do so! however, first I try to get to report this problem before I start flashing non offical roms. maybe they still can grant me a quick replacement. I dont want to loose my guarantee too quick by flashing a non official rom.

A question offtopic, as I didnt find it anywhere official and also Xiaomi follows the 3.13.x (codes a date) versioning I am again confused:
What is the JBL12, what is v4 and v5 and how does this map to the 3.13.x version. It seems that already miui uses all three version numbers for the same things and so does MIUIAndroid?

so guys, for the history books:

Went to a friendly xiaomi official repairservice in beijing - nobody there speaks english - and I dont speak chinese. I managed to tell them my problem by google translator. Then we were chatting through baidu translator about the problem :D
The translation was not perfect, but the information I can give to this board is the following:

- They have those propblems often
- They know about it and seemed confident to fix it
- They put my phone in fastboot and flashed it. Also they said something about "brush" which I didnt understand
- I lost all my phone data and am again at version JLB 12
- They flashed only one partition (I asked them but I wont try, as I am afraid booting in the other one may have caused the problem by damaging the data partition??)
- Since then didnt see any reboot or blackscreen of death

I dont want yet to put MIUIAndroid but I think I will soon. For everyone that experiences the same problem: I think an update to MIUIAndroid could help!

the update didn't help though it reduced the problem. I went this week again to the store, after long unfruitful discussions via web translator replaced one guy my mainboard and put on the newest MIUI - v14. I was quite surprised about the new icon and general layout and that in 2 weeks thez came up with two new versions, seems that they didnt give me last time the latest version. I admit that I like the one before better. It was slim and neat. This one comes from babytoy-city. I guess this one is now compareable to v5 in this board. Still I dont understand the versioning, but by now (3days no Problems).
