Xiaomi TD-SCDMA doesn't work with USA's T-Mobile data, even at 2G/EDGE speeds

Please check on which network frequency's your provider works, than check the label of your Hongmi box.
Edit: In that topic you mentioned 2 people were assuming that it could work.
Perhaps you can change the simcard from slot 1 to 2 or visa versa

I tried both SIM slots, neither worked. I have no idea which frequency T-Mobile uses. I'm just reporting to hopefully save someone else the trouble.

What city in the us are you in?

Hongmi should work in a T-Mobile 1900mhz reformed network area.

You should check the specifications of your network at the provider, they should be able to give you the answer to your question.
Hongmi W works on: GSM 900/1800/1900MHz and Global 3G 1900/2100 MHz
Hongmi T works on GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz and Chinese 3G 1900/2100 MHz

The TD-SCDMA its just for China online!
For USA and Europe mas be WCDMA/CDMA version.

Friendswood, Texas, 77546. It's a modern, affluent area that would have the latest technology, but who knows. From here:

T-Mobile's UMTS network operates in Band IV, which uses 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies. Specifically, T-Mobile uses the 1700 MHz frequency to send information to cell sites and then uses the 2100 MHz frequency to receive information. A device must be able to use both frequencies to use T-Mobile's domestic UMTS network.

Most international UMTS networks operate in Band I, which uses the 2100 MHz frequency.

Tmobile uses 850 and 1900 gsm bands so it should work according to this.

T-Mobile's GSM network operates in 850 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies. Unlike our 3G and 4G networks, you do not need to use both bands to receive service, so if a device is only able to use 850 MHz or 1900 MHz, it can still use T-Mobile's domestic network.

Check if the APN settings match with your provider. Or just recreate it.

Yeah that's probably it. The APN should be epc.tmobile.com

Op, please let us know if you can solve this issue. Hopefully you can get your hongmi to get edge data.

Yes, I went in to the shop with my phone. The tech there toggled the data setting on and it worked with edge. I did the exact same thing the day before and got nothing! I tried several times during the day, toggling data on and off, rebooting the phone, trying the SIM card in different slots, etc. I suppose it takes a day or two for a new subscriber to be authorized for data or something. So it works now, don't know why it wasn't working before. Typical!

There's a chance that the edge spectrum you tried to tap into isn't available where you tested the phone, but is available near the phone shop you visited.

Glad to hear you got the device working. Enjoy your hongmi.
