Marshmallow Upgrade On Mi4i

I've got a new Xiaomi Mi4i, brilliant machine, now all I need is to make it work.

Got some help last night but too many choices on that page and no procedure advice.

This started because I wanted to set United Kingdom as my Locale. Upgraded Miui which didn't help.

Looks like I need Marshmallow. Found too many upgrade methods, some seem out of date, others with missing links.

Please advise which is the correct upgrade method to use for Mi4i in the UK.

Although reasonably capable I am new to Android and want to be cautious. Keen to avoid coding!

Looked at TWRP Recovery. Got Flashify. Needs ROM access which needs developer version of ? Miui / Android.

Update app finds no update. So now got two big zips in downloaded_rom ... TWRP-v2.8.7.0-cancro-20150621.zip and xiaomi.eu_multi_ferrari_6.1.28_v7-5.0.zip ... unable to do anything with them. PLEASE ADVISE

I assume you don't have Root access? Flashify needs Root permission to work.
So to flash TWRP recovery without Root permission you have to follow this procedure mentioned in this link

Many thanks bugsmenoti. Tried that and got stuck on downloading the Mi4i toolkit ... got ... We're sorry. You can't access this item because it is in violation of our Terms of Service. .. from Google.

Maybe I should wait for the release after beta ... any idea of the ETA? Or should I struggle on? Will there be a EU / UK version release? What advice please?

>Firstly, if you are on the Global Rom and still can't set locale to UK then it's probably because there's no official locale for UK as Xiaomi (maybe) still doesn't sell their phones officially there. >Secondly for now, there are two Rom variants for the Miui Rom. The Chinese Rom and the Global Rom. The Global Rom is for all other countries excluding China. So I don't think there will be a exclusive UK release anytime soon.
>Thirdly if you still want to try the Xiaomi.eu Rom you can follow this link to flash TWRP

But do remember to back up every thing before any kind of flashing just for safety.

You'll like this! I have lost the phone caller. Have tried reinstalling and recovering without success. I assume it is my fault for reorganising apps on the screen, disabling some and deleting Contacts. Anyway I'm stuck now. Your wise advice will be appreciated. Bests ... Andrew

PS ... Android says the app is there but no icon on screen means I can't use it.

You could try to dirty flash the Rom. Just update the same Rom through the updater app and caller app should reappear.

Hi there ... me again ... sorry. Had to wipe to get phone caller back. Now back in India at 6.1.28 beta again with a working phone. Would like to get back to ferrari BUT the PC Suite is stuck at 30% recognition of the device. I have looked but can't find either a MIUI PC Suite upgrade or even the right windows xp drivers to access the device as a drive. So I have no way of uploading the ferrari zip to Mi4i so can't update. Very frustrating ... please advise ... Andrew

PS ... Should I just wait for the official Marshmallow release next month?

Also. The Mi4 reviews said the speaker is loud. Mine isn't. Need it loud for hands free phone. What do you suggest?
I am confused. Is your phone Mi4(cancro) or Mi4i(Ferrari)? If it's latter then afaik, there isn't any official announcement about marshmallow for this phone.

It's an Mi 4i I bought to use in the UK, mainly as dual sim phone and camera. Both work. Only immediate problem is the speaker volume is much lower than I expected from the reviews. (Dual sim is still unavailable from UK vendors).

I started using the forums originally because I wanted to set Locale as United Kingdom and was told to upgrade to Marshmallow.

My understanding is that the Ferrari beta is the way to get UK Locale. It did seem to work ... then lost the phone icon.

But now I can't do anything as my Windows XP machine cannot find my Mi 4i using sub or wifi, with or without the MIUI PC Suite. So patching is impossible until I can fix this problem.

By the way I think the phone calling icon went away after I installed Skype.

Version numbers

MIUI on Windows XP version 2.2.0.7032

Mi 4i
Android 5.0.2 LRX22G
MIUI 7 by xiaomi eu 6.1.28 beta
> Where did you hear about the marshmallow update? As far as I know, there hasn't been any announcements yet.
> If your phone isn't being detected by your PC then uninstall Mi PC suite and install the latest version again.
> If you can't use your PC then you can always try to flash the latest stable global recovery Rom through the updater app.

I noticed a rumour about March release somewhere on the net. Sorry, no idea where.

I'm back on Ferrari. The MIUI PC Suite tries very hard to work but can't make it ... can't connect.

Will factory reset take me back to the older Indian version ... then I suppose the suite would work.

I can't understand why I am unable to get win xp to recognise the Mi4 as a usb flash drive. I've done all I can but the adb-setup won't install ... no idea if mtp drivers are installed ... adb actually reporting an installer problem ... which I don't believe. I even tried Bluetooth which didn't work either!

So now I'm in a box. My Sony Vodafone machine is synced with Outlook and although ancient it works well. I like the Mi4 and would like to use it ... with two sims ... one Vodafone the other Freedompop. But can only use it if it has my contacts and calendar from Outlook. All I need for that is for win xp to recognise my Mi4 as a drive ... don't really need the PC suite.

Please do help if you can. Best wishes ... Andrew

> If your base Rom was Xiaomi.eu Rom then factory resetting will not revert it back to the Indian version.

Yes, it's my old machine that's the problem. So I'll get a new Windows 10, probably the HP Envy with the great display.

I want to be on mainline MIUI. Should I go back to the factory version for the Mi4i ... can it be downloaded and installed with TWRP ... or stay with the Ferrari version which has United Kingdom locale but may not be mainline?

A major consideration is if there will be a Marshmallow flavour Ferrari ... soonish ... and if it will have camera image stabilisation?

>Mi4i's codename is "Ferrari". So every Rom made for it can termed as the "Ferrari" version. Even the official ones.
>Afaik TWRP will be able to flash both the official Roms (factory Rom) and the Xiaomi.eu ones (Ferrari version).
>If you are thinking that you will miss out on features or updates if you stay on the Xiaomi.eu Rom, then you're kind of wrong. Xiaomi.eu Rooms are updated with the Chinese developer and stable ones so you'll actually get updates faster than if you were using the official one. And the feature set will remain for the most part the same on both Roms.
>I can't tell about when will the marshmallow update come and what feature set will it bring. ^^

Hi bugmenot1 .... and thanks for the reply.

Will the Update app automatically see when there are Ferrari updates or do I need to check periodically?
