Mi Mix Unlock

@Kostas_F

Can you elaborate on your previous post about not having to have an unlocked bootloader to flash an Official ROM?

All tutorials I can find suggest otherwise.

You don't have to be unlocked to flash official rom.
That's why it's official.
Use the guide I mention in my previous post to flash fastboot official rom.
Then let it boot normally and connect your phone to your mi account.
Then unlock tool will pass 50% and work as it should.
That's my experience with my Mix and many others.

i used miflash app and after putting the phone in fastboot mode it is like this.
looks like miflash can see the phone. i am quite confused now...should i proceed with miflash for flashing an official rom? i dont want to brick the phone...
You are good to go. Download Mix fastboot rom and flash it.
Then unlock it.
Then install TWRP.
Then install EU multilingual rom.

well... for some reason the phone quits fastboot mode very fast and then starts charging. i downloaded official china dev rom and mi flash app says mismatch device/image

Download Chinese official. Not dev. It has English language too.

Did you log in to your mi account from vendor rom?

Good work,
Remember you were not getting a serial number reply back from 'adb devices'

That is always the first command you should enter as that tells you it is communicating with the device & then you can proceed with the TWRP command's.

Uninstall whatever adb tools you have installed & install the minimal adb tools.

when the phone is switched on i have

C:\WINDOWS\system32>adb devices
List of devices attached
4b4382f4 device

is this correct?

Yes it's connected.
So do the TWRP command's work after that?

and in fastboot i have

C:\Users\mcn19>fastboot oem device-info
...
(bootloader) Device tampered: false
(bootloader) Device unlocked: true
(bootloader) Device critical unlocked: true
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
(bootloader) Display panel:
OKAY [ 0.059s]
finished. total time: 0.060s

have i done everything correctly with adb and fastboot installing?

no.
adb devices outputs only when phone is in idle.
if phone is in fastboot adb outputs nothing

is a matter of corrupted file? i tried to download many times but same result...

i solved it....it may sound inappropriate but what you would suggest between xiaomi.eu and epic roms?

Sorry was in the middle of dinner.
So you have TWRP flashed?

Im currently using Epic myself but have also used .EU.

For me the only reason I moved to EPIC was the battery life drastically got worse after a few releases of the Xiaomi.eu ROM but EPIC has the same issue.

EPIC ROM usually has root by default & OTA so that's something to consider...

i flashed twrp indeed. first time in my life...been a little nervous about bricking the phone but so far so good.
regarding battery issue, are chines or vendors rom better with managing it?

Well it depends on your device, have a search on the Mi Mix threads here & on en.miui.com for users with battery drain issues if any.

At the moment there are some issues with the Redmi Note 4 draining the battery depending on whether you are using a 3G or 4G sim card & that seems to affect all Official ROM's & the EPIC rom as it is based on the official China developer ROM.

Nice effort persisting with it

Boot into TWRP now & make a full backup of your current ROM before you do anything & put the backup on an SD card or PC.

If you do the above procedure before flashing any ROM you can't go wrong & you will always have a way back.

Also if you use the inbuilt Mi Backup & Mi Cloud you can switch ROMs really easily keeping all your data, apps & settings.

Yeah, I have heard that before, I backup to an SD card or a OTG USB flash drive.
